THE IVORIAN WIZKID

 



Yan Diomande was born on the 14th of November, 2006 in Abidjan, Côte dIvoire. His father is Mr Hammad Mamadou Traore and mother Mrs. Marina Edwige Teher. He also had a sister, who unfortunately passed away after her drink been spiked at a party in Abidjan, when she was just 15 years.

At the age of nine, from the streets of Côte d' Ivoire, he was privileged to attend an academy in the South Eastern part of the country, i.e. Inter foot Sud Comoé.

Youth to Professional Career

After this, young Diomande on reaching 15 years of age, he was selected by the the U-17 national team to represent the Ivorians in the qualifications for the junior Africa cup of nations. He ended up participating and was also given chance to play in the tournament in which the WAFU Zone B, which was hosted in Cape Coast Ghana but unfortunately, Cóte d'Ivoire failed to qualify for the 2023 U - 17 Africa cup of nations, which was taking place in Algeria.

From here, the star boy, through an agency known as the Rainbow Global, became among the beneficiaries to take a plane up to Florida USA, in Dayton Beach, at an institution known as the DME academy. It's stated that the agency mentioned, sent some videos of him playing including the WAFU u17 tournament and they were interested in him.He went in mid September of 2022.

While still at the DME academy, he was spotted by an affiliate lower division team, AS Frenzi and from here, some MLS clubs such as Charlottefc and Colorado Rapids, were interested in him. He then moved to Europe for trials, which was his main goal to clubs such as Rangers ( Scotland), Chelsea, Crystal Palace and AFC Bournemouth ( England). It is at Palace,  that he says he met Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze.

In late 2024, he went on to sign with Leganes, ending up to join them in January of 2025.His first debut as a Leganes player was against Real Madrid. He ended up scoring his first goal as a pro against Espanyol in a Laliga clash.

After playing for a total of 542 minutes in all matches he had during his short time at Leganes, Germany's RB Leipzig were interested in him. They took him with a release clause of €20 million. The 2025 season was splendid for him in the German Bundesliga. He ended up scoring a total of 13 goals and 10 assists to his name.He also earned the rookie of the season award.In December 2025, Leipzig had a league clash against Eintracht Frankfurt where they won 6-0. Diomande made history by becoming the youngest hattrick goal scorer in 60 years of the German Bundesliga.

Due to this performance, he ended been called up in the Ivorian national team for friendlies before the 2025 Africa cup of nations, hosted in Morocco.He was also included in the 2026 world cup squad, featuring in the opening match against Ecuador, where the Ivorians won 1-0. He not only was awarded Man of the Match, but also became the youngest Ivorian to participate in a world cup match at only 19 years, 212 days old.He helped the team secure their first ever knockout spot but were eventually eliminated.

Since then many top tier European clubs have had interest in him such as Liverpool, PSG, Chelsea and even Manchester United, naming just a few. Through him we learn just from the famous marathon runner, Eliud Kipchoge from Kenya that no human is limited. In recent interviews, many at times he is reflected saying that his dream was to play in Europe. On the 8 th of August this year, Real Madrid made a record signing, by signing the young star on a record €125 million on a seven year contract plus €15million potential adds on. This made him the 1st Ivorian player to play for Real Madrid and also the most expensive player in African history. The kids future indeed is bright, looking forward for more expectations, especially in the 2026/27 season for the young Ivorian.
